Level 3 first aid training is often given to workplace supervisors because this is the level of first aid where someone learns how to manage a crisis and handle more involved first aid problems. It's generally needed by people who live or work far enough away from medical facilities that a substantial amount of time could pass between calling for help and having help arrive. However, even if you aren't a workplace supervisor in your company, you might want to take the courses for this level anyway.
Backup Skills
For one thing, if something happens and the supervisor is hurt, someone will need to step up and handle what the supervisor would have handled. That can be you or other coworkers; it's never a bad idea to have multiple people ready to help. If your office is planning to only have one or two people train in these skills, speak to whoever is coordinating the training and see if a few more employees, including yourself, can receive the training as well. Keep in mind that you'll have to have training in the first two levels first.
Useful Outside of Work
Having these skills is helpful outside work as well. If you move to an area far from hospitals and medical clinics, you may need these skills in an emergency; if something goes wrong when you're out and about one day, you'll be able to help people in need. That doesn't mean taking these classes obligates you to put yourself in dangerous situations, but it does mean that if you want to help someone, you can because you'll have the skills to do so. Learning these skills can also help you keep a cooler head in an emergency, even if you don't need to use the first aid skills themselves.
Promotions and New Jobs
You might like your current workplace, but if you decide to leave or want to try for a promotion to another department, having these skills that you can put on your CV or resume is a real plus. They show initiative and trustworthiness, and if you got your training at work, it shows you were treated with respect. Do what you can to keep the skills current by taking refresher courses when possible.
While Level 3 first aid is intense and will require some time to learn—these aren't just short courses that you complete in a few hours on your own time—it's worth it. Not only do you increase your knowledge, but you can now help more people as well.
