Tips For Keeping Your New Eyeglasses In The Best Shape Possible

by Roberto Morales

Whether you are absolutely in love with your new frames or you simply do not want to find yourself spending money on replacements if you do not have to, you will want to check out the following tips. This way, you will be able to keep your eyeglasses in the best shape possible.

Rinse Before Wiping

It doesn't matter how soft of a cloth you are going to use to wipe your eyeglasses clean. The goal is to make sure that you are not only getting all of the dust and dirt out of the way of your line of sight, but to do so in a manner that does not destroy the lens. Since the smallest of particles can be abrasive and damage the lens, you will always want to rinse off your glasses under some water. This way, all of the rough particles will be washed off. You can then wipe them dry so that there are no smudges that will get in the way.

Pick The Right Cloth

When it does come time to wipe your glasses clean, you might be tempted to grab whatever cloth feels soft to you. Any fabric that is not 100% cotton can scratch up the lens of your glasses. So do not use your shirt or the kitchen towel, and never use toilet paper or paper towels. The best thing to do is to purchase small eyeglass cleaning clothes from your eye doctor. Many department stores, and even dollar stores, are now selling them with their eyeglass repair kits.

Never Use Glass Cleaner

If you want a chemical spray to use on your glasses, you need to find one that was specifically designed for eyeglasses. Make sure that you are refraining from using commercially sold window glass cleaner. It is not the same thing. That kind of cleaner has ammonia in it. This will break down any protective film that was applied to your lens. If you are not sure what kind of spray to use, stop by your eye doctors and ask them. They will most likely have a couple of options for you to pick from.

With the previously mentioned tips in mind, you should have no trouble making sure that your eyeglasses remain in the best possible shape for as long as possible. You should not have to worry about replacing your eyeglasses until it is time to update your prescription.
